Where Are Your Weapons?

Did you read the email about the soldier in the war that was face-to-face with the enemy and decided to set aside his armor and face the challenge of on his own? The story of how he did not pick up his weapons even though the weapons were within his grasp? How he wound up surrendering to the enemy because he ignored his weapons?

What? You missed that story?

You mean you didn't get it in your email inbox like 200 times? You didn't get the chance to rush over to snopes.co, to see if it was true or not? Hmmm....

Don't bother checking snopes.com. You won't find the story there.

The soldiers is indeed in the war. And the war is real and he faces real enemies.

The soldier is in the army of our Loving Lord and the enemy he faces appears in the area of inappropriate Internet content. The soldier faces temptations to read inappropriate content, to act on that content, to submit to the enemy's influence in his life.

The soldier has weapons sitting very near his computer. He has multiple versions of the Word of our Loving Lord. Even without lifting a finger, he has another weapon at his disposal...prayer. He also has the weapon of accountability. He can pick up the phone and call a trusted advisor to walk him away from the temptation the enemy presents.

But what does he do? He goes straight to the PC and starts surfing. He does not take the time to put on his full armor. He faces the enemy on his own, with full armor and weapons right within his reach. And he is taken captive and submits to the enemy.

And that is a true story! The soldier has confidentially shared his story with me.

What about you? Are you like that soldier? Do you head out into daily battle against the foes of this world with your armor back at the house? Do you try to stand alone forgetting the weapons that are within your grasp?

Are you wiling and ready to come back to the base camp? Will you, today, submit to our Loving Lords leadership and let him rescue you from behind enemy lines? And once he rescues you, will you commit to the code of His army and put on your full armor each and every day?

Ephesians 6 (The Message)13-20

Be prepared. You're up against far more than you can handle on your own. Take all the help you can get, every weapon God has issued, so that when it's all over but the shouting you'll still be on your feet. Truth, righteousness, peace, faith, and salvation are more than words. Learn how to apply them. You'll need them throughout your life. God's Word is an indispensable weapon. In the same way, prayer is essential in this ongoing warfare. Pray hard and long. Pray for your brothers and sisters. Keep your eyes open. Keep each other's spirits up so that no one falls behind or drops out. And don't forget to pray for me. Pray that I'll know what to say and have the courage to say it at the right time, telling the mystery to one and all, the Message that I, jailbird preacher that I am, am responsible for getting out.
