His Way Or The Freeway?

As many of you know, I try to avoid the freeways at all cost. Occasionally I will venture onto one of them but not during rush hour or other high traffic times. This, of course, leads me to go through many traffic lights on my way to my destination.

Traffic lights can be all green and make for a smooth commute. Or they can occasionally turn red, making for a slower trip to where I am going.

That does not necessarily mean the freeway would be faster. The freeway is dangerous and has many more wrecks than the side roads I travel. It is often both safer and faster to be on the less traveled side road.

The same is true with life. If you take the 'free way' where you are free to live life at any speed, you are more likely to have 'accidents'...affairs, unplanned pregnancies, excessive debt, drug addictions, etc.

If you take the less traveled side road by following our Loving Lord and His instructions, you will encounter red lights along the way. When you heed those red lights, you are less likely to have those same accidents.

Which road will you take today? Are you in such a big hurry to run your own life that you insist on being on the 'free way'? Or will you slow down on the side road, read His Word, pray, and heed His direction and warnings (red lights) for you life?

(As we pray today, let's remember to pray for our nation on the anniversary of the 9/11 attacks.)

Matthew 7:13-14 (The Message) "Don't look for shortcuts to God. The market is flooded with surefire, easygoing formulas for a successful life that can be practiced in your spare time. Don't fall for that stuff, even though crowds of people do. The way to life—to God!—is vigorous and requires total attention.
